Covid-19 related stress
Having increased stress related to quarantine, Covid-19, and maybe due to quarantine being lifted in
some areas? In order to take control back there are three simple rules that I suggest to follow. First,
wake up each day and before you get out of bed do some deep breathing. Second, make sure to do
something for yourself for at least 30 minutes a day. This can include activities such as taking a walk,
working out, sitting in the back yard, reading a book, listening to your favorite singer. The important part
about these 30 minutes is to make sure that you are not using your smart phone or watching television.
These two activities have been shown to increase stress and anxiety, so of course we want to stay away
from them when doing the 30 minutes of self-care to reduce stress and anxiety. And for third simple
rule each night before you go to bed, take at least 5 minutes to practice meditation. You can use guided
meditation apps from your phone, or even find something available on the internet. Don’t like guided
meditation? Well then turn on some classical meditation music for at least 5 minutes. This will help to
calm your mind down at night.
A bonus rule is to make sure you stick to a daily schedule, write the daily
schedule down, don’t just keep it in your head. This will help to remain on track with daily tasks, help to
feel that goals are accomplished as you check them off and allow less clutter in your mind.
If you need help with guided meditation keep a look out on Kordis Counseling Facebook page as we
have free live video guided meditation events every month. The Facebook link is located on the top of
the page and will take you right to Kordis Counseling Facebook. Hope to “see” you there.
